General Description
Perennial from a tightly branched caudex. Herbage sparsely strigose. Stems erect, 25–60 cm long. Leaves with 9 to 15 linear-elliptic leaflets, 10–25 cm long with rounded tips; stipules ovate to lanceolate, 4–9 mm long, distinct. Inflorescence open with 10 to 30 spreading flowers. Flowers purple; sepals ca. 1 mm long; calyx gray-pilose; banner 6–9 mm long, slightly reflexed; keel 4–8 mm long. Legume pendent, ovoid, black and white-strigose, 8–12 mm long, triangular in cross section (Lesica 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
