General Description
Taprooted perennial with a short-branched caudex. Stems erect, 2–7 cm. Herbage usually sparsely villous, eglandular. Leaves mostly basal; blades narrowly oblanceolate, entire, 1–2 cm long, becoming linear on the stem. Heads solitary, radiate. Involucres campanulate, 5–7 mm high; phyllaries in 2 or 3 series, villous with septate hairs, eglandular. Rays 15 to 35, blue; ligules 4–9 mm long. Disk corollas 3–4 mm long. Habitat
Stony, usually non-calcareous soil of fellfields, turf, open forest; upper subalpine, alpine (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
