General Description
Taprooted biennial or short-lived perennial. Stems erect, 10–40 cm, often branched at the base of a simple caudex. Herbage short-hirsute; hairs spreading or ascending. Leaves basal and cauline; blades obovate to oblanceolate, 1–5 cm long, entire; basal usually withered at flowering; cauline becoming sessile, linear above. Heads at least several, radiate, nodding in bud. Involucres hemispheric, 3–5 mm high; phyllaries in 3 to 4 series, glandular, hirsute with a brown midvein. Rays 70 to 150, white, 4–8 mm long. Disk corollas 2–3 mm long. Achenes ca. 1 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
