State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
Reported for Montana (Hitchcock and Cronquist 1973). This species is presently (2012) recognized by the following sources or databases: NRCS PLANTS, The Plant List; Flora N. America, and BONAP (Kartesz ined.). A voucher is known from Glacier National Park (no County indicated) at the Rocky Mountain Herbarium website (Osterhout 8083; July 1934). More information is needed to determine the status of the species in the state. Lesica (2012) feels the distinction of this species is blurred by hybrids with S. foliaceum.
