General Description
Biennial. Stems 30–150 cm. Leaf blades oblong, 7–30 cm long, pinnately shallowly lobed with a large terminal lobe, prickly below and on the margins, clasping above. Involucre 15–22 mm high; phyllaries reflexed in fruit. Rays 20 to 50, yellow or blue; ligules 5–6 mm long. Achenes 4–5 mm long; beaks 2–5 mm long (Lesica 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants.
