General Description
Annual or biennial. Stems 60–200 cm. Leaf blades ovate, 10–40 cm long, deeply pinnately lobed; lobes deltoid, dentate, sparsely villous on the margins. Involucre 7–12 mm high; inner phyllaries reflexed in fruit. Rays 15 to 30, blue; ligules 1–5 mm long. Achenes 4–5 mm long; beaks up to 0.5 mm long, stout; pappus tawny (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
