Lesica (2012) separates variety debilis from var. kamtschaticus by the following characters: stems less than 30 cm tall; heads 1-6; plants usually fibrous-rooted.
Western North America, from AK east to MT, south to CA, UT, CO and NM (Kartesz 2009).
