General Description
Stems erect to spreading, spineless, 1–2 m. Twigs glandular and/or pubescent, brown becoming gray. Leaf blades 1–3 cm wide, shallowly cuneate, shallowly 3-lobed to fan-shaped with crenate margins, glabrous to glandular-pubescent. Inflorescence short, 3- to 5-flowered, drooping. Flowers tubular, white to pink, 7–13 mm long, glandular-pubescent; calyx lobes 2–3 mm long, ovate; petals dull white, 1–2 mm long; stamens longer than the petals; styles glabrous or pubescent, united to the tip. Berry glabrous to glandular, 4–7 mm long, red, insipid (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Moist to dry, often stony soil of grasslands, steppe, woodlands, open forest; plains, valleys, montane (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
