Migration
Normal spring arrival near Fortine is April 7.

Food Habits
Near Missoula, insects were the primary summer food, obtained primarily by ground predation. Rocky Mountain juniper cones were the primary food during late winter.

Ecology
Singing occurs most frequently during establishment of winter and breeding territories, and calling is most common during the winter months.

Reproductive Characteristics
Near Missoula, egg-laying occurred from May 29 to July 7 . Twelve (of 14) nest sites were in cutbanks and 2 were in open woodlands. Clutch size averaged 4.4 eggs. Statewide, nesting is from June 1 to August 1; eggs have been seen on July 23.
