		General Description
		Shrub or rarely a small tree to 12 m tall. Twigs short-hairy. Leaf blades 2–12 cm long, obovate to elliptic, widest above the middle with entire to serrulate margins, green above, glaucous and sparsely hairy beneath. Female catkins 2–6 cm long, emerging with the leaves on leafless branchlets 3–7 mm long; scales dark brown, long-hairy. Capsules 5–8 mm long, densely short-hairy; stipes 1–2 mm long; style ca. 0.5 mm long (
