		General Description
		Biennial or short-lived perennial. Stems erect, often branched, 40–80 cm. Herbage hirsute. Leaf blades lanceolate, 3–15 cm long, serrate. Heads radiate; phyllaries lanceolate, hirsute, 1–2 cm long; receptacle hemispheric, 8–12 mm high. Rays 8 to 16, hirsute; ligules 15–35 mm long. Disk corollas purple, 3–4 mm long, ca. as long as the scales. Achenes 1.5–3 mm long (
