General Description
Stems glabrous to puberulent and glandular,10–40 cm from woody, fibrous roots. Leaves mostly basal; the blades 2–10 cm wide; ultimate lobes to 6 mm wide. Inflorescence 3- to 12-flowered; lower flowers shorter than the puberulent pedicels. Flowers with spreading, deep blue sepals 10–25 mm long, the lower pair longer; upper petals white with blue markings; lower petals whitish to deep blue, the blade cleft 1/4 or less the length. Fruits, puberulent, 12–22 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Our plants are subspecies calcicola M.J. Warnock & Vanderhorst.
