General Description
Shrubs 1–4 m. Twigs usually glaucous, especially around buds. Leaf blades 2–9 cm long, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic with entire, inrolled margins, green above, moderately to densely silver-hairy below Female catkins emerge before the leaves, 2–7 cm long, sessile; scales black, long-hairy. Capsules hairy, 3–6 mm long; stipes ca. 0.5 mm long; styles 1–2 mm long (Lesica 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
