State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
DRAFT: Requesting feedback on the 2026 revised rank, factors, and State Rank Reason outlined below and in the Conservation Status Rank Report.
Isoetes occidentalis is extremely rare in Montana, being known from only two waterbodies. Population levels and potential trends are unknown. It is unknown if any significant threats currently exist to either of the populations. The one occurrence has not been surveyed since 1998, and the other occurrence was observed in both 2019 and 1976 but lacks detailed data. Surveys of the known populations are needed to document their current status, including population size and extent, habitat quality and potential threats.
