General Description
Stems monomorphic, hollow, leathery, dark green, evergreen, unbranched, 18–100 cm × 4–10 mm with 14 to 40 ridges. Sheaths green becoming gray with a black lower band and black, deciduous teeth. Strobili 5–25 mm long with sharp-pointed tips, maturing in summer (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
