General Description
Plants with a short, branched rhizome covered with glossy, brown scales. Leaves clustered, dimorphic, 6–20 cm long with long, shiny petioles and lance-shaped to triangular blades. Sterile leaves parsley-like, 2 to 3 times pinnate with oblong pinnules. Fertile leaves longer, 2 to 3 times pinnate with leathery, linear pinnules. Fertile pinnules mucronate with a prominent midrib and pale indusia partly covering the sori from the margins (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
