General Description
Stems 40–80 cm. Leaves: blades 1–2 mm wide, scabrous near the throat, ligule <0.5 mm. Inflorescence an open panicle 10–15 cm long. Spikelets 7–8 mm long, pendant. Lemmas appressed hairy, with an awn 1.5–3 cm long (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
