General Description
Perennial. Stems 20–70 cm tall; lower blades and sheaths usually hairless, less commonly hairy, blades flat, lax, 2–5 mm wide. Inflorescence lax, 5–12 cm long, rachis disarticulating at maturity. Spikelets the 2 laterals sterile, the pedicel 0.5–1.5 mm long; glumes awn-like, 25–75 mm long. Lemmas: fertile lemma 6–8 mm long (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
