State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
Bouteloua hirsuta has not been documented in Montana (Lesica et al. 2012; Postings as of October 23, 2019 on the Consortium of Pacific Northwest Herbaria [http://www.pnwherbaria.org] and Rocky Mountain Herbarium [http://rmh.uwyo.edu] portals). No Montana specimens have been verified (MTNHP Status Review in 2019). Reported observations are often the result of mis-identified Bouteloua gracilis. There is potential for it to occur in Montana, and potential specimens should be reported and confirmed by one of our State Herbaria at the University of Montana, Montana State University, or Montana State University-Billings. A conservation status rank is not applicable (SNA) because this plant is not known to occur in Montana.

General Description
Please refer to the State Rank Reason for its status and the following botanical literature for species identification:

Flora of North America
Published Floras
On-line e-Floras

Flora of the Great Plains (McGregor et al. 1986).

Potential specimens should be provided to and verified at one of our State Herbaria:
University of Montana (MONTU), Montana State University (MONT), or Montana State University-Billings (MSUB).
