General Description
Stems purple, occasionally yellowish, 15–50 cm. Inflorescence with 10 to 30 flowers; bracts 1–5 mm long. Flowers: sepals and upper petals 6–10 mm long, purple (yellowish), somewhat spreading; lip petal 4–9 mm long, white with purple spots and a pair of small lanceolate basal lobes. Capsule 15–22 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

We have varieties maculosa and occidentalis (Lindl.) Ames.
