State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
DRAFT: Requesting feedback on the 2026 revised rank, factors, and State Rank Reason outlined below and in the Conservation Status Rank Report.
Calochortus gunnisonii occurs sporadically in portions of southcentral, central and southeastern Montana. Although statewide population numbers are unknown, the species is believed to be relatively stable and with viable population levels. Noxious weeds and other invasive species are considered the primary threat, but the overall magnitude of the threat remains low at this time.
Stem 20–40 cm. Leaf blades 1–2 mm wide. Bracts 1–7 cm long. Flowers 1 or 2; sepals 15–45 mm long, marked with purple; petals greenish to purplish, 3–5 cm long; inner surface with a yellow-fringed, crescent-shaped gland extending the width of the petal, purple above and below; anthers apiculate. Capsule spindle-shaped, erect, 2–5 cm long (
