State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
DRAFT: Requesting feedback on the 2026 revised rank, factors, and State Rank Reason outlined below and in the Conservation Status Rank Report. Geum canadense is a species found primarily in eastern and central North America that reaches its western limit in southeastern Montana. It has been documented from less than 20 locations in the state; all of these locations are on National Forest lands. Population levels are unknown though most occurrences appear likely to be relatively small. Population trends are also unknown though the species has likely been relatively stable or experienced only minor declines in the recent past. Threats to the species are not well-documented. However, livestock grazing and various non-native species are known to occur in or in the vicinity of the species' habitat though the extent or magnitude of impacts from either of these is unknown. Surveys are needed at the known locations to document population size and extent, habitat quality and potential threats. Additional surveys are needed in areas of potentially suitable habitat to look for additional populations. The species may be overlooked and under-reported.
