General Description
Scabrous to puberulent, annual or biennial. Stems erect, branched, 5–60 cm. Leaves mainly cauline; the blades linear-lanceolate, 2–15 cm long. Inflorescence a leafy-bracted panicle of erect, interrupted, spike-like branches. Flowers perfect; outer tepals ca. 1 mm long. Fruit 1–3 mm long; inner tepals narrowly triangular with linear callosities and marginal, bristle-like lobes. Achene light brown, ca. 1 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants.
