General Description
Annual with glabrous, fleshy, reddish foliage. Stems erect, branched, 5–15 cm. Leaves opposite, minute, scale-like. Flowers mostly perfect, sessile in groups of 3 at nodes in a terminal, bracteate spike; calyx 3-parted, pyramidal, 1–2 mm wide, completely closed except for a central slit; stamens 2. Fruit flattened, enclosed in spongy calyx; seeds vertical, ca. 0.5 mm across (
