General Description
Biennial or perennial with a simple or rarely few-branched caudex. Stems 10–60 cm, terminal. Vestiture of 3- to 4-branched hairs at the base of the plant. Basal leaves oblanceolate to oblong with entire or dentate margins, 15–40 mm long. Stem leaves lanceolate, auriculate-clasping. Flowers purple, sometimes pale; petals 7–10 mm long . Fruit 2–8 cm × 1–2 mm, erect and appressed to the stem; seeds in 2 rows per locule (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
