General Description
Stems 5–30 cm. Herbage glabrate to villous, densely so on the leaf margins. Leaves linear-lanceolate, entire or wavy-margined, 5–20 cm long. Involucre 15–27 mm high; phyllaries lanceolate,13 to 34, glabrate, purple or purple-spotted. Ray flowers 13 to 80; ligules 1–2 cm long. Achenes 7–10 mm long; pappus of bristles and wider awn-like scales (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
