General Description
Subshrub. Stems numerous, erect, 8–30 cm, unbranched below the inflorescence. Herbage puberulent, minutely punctate-glandular. Leaves cauline, linear, 1–4 cm long. Inflorescence flat-topped-corymbiform, composed of sessile heads in small clusters. Heads radiate; involucre obconic, 3–5 mm high; phyllaries 8 to 14, imbricate in 3 to 4 series, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, glabrous, resinous with a thickened green tip; receptacle conic, naked. Ray flowers 3 to 7, yellow, female; ligules 1–3 mm long. Disk flowers perfect, yellow; corolla 2–4 mm long, funnelform; style branches with hairy, lance-linear appendages. Pappus 1 or 2 series of erose scales. Achenes clavate, 1–2 mm long, densely strigose (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
