Artemisia porteri is reported as occurring in Montana based on the Flora of North America (FNA; Shultz in FNA 2006). It is well documented in Fremont, Johnson, and Natrona counties of Wyoming, which are not near to the Montana border (http://rmh.uwyo.edu). Specimens or other documentation of its presence in Montana have not been found (https://www.pnwherbaria.org; https://plants.usda.gov; http://ngpherbaria.org; Lesica et al. 2012; Dorn 1984; Booth 1966).
