Williams (2011) sampled crayfish across the Canadian Prairie Provinces, Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota and found that symbionts, such as C. vitreus, occurred in the Fresno Reservoir, but in no other sampled areas in Montana or nearby in Alberta suggesting the symbionts were 'transported' on crayfish introduced into the reservoir.
