General Description
The Blue Grosbeak breeds across the entire Southern United States and into the plains of Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The species migrates across the Caribbean to winter in Central America. The Blue Grosbeak is a rare summer breeder in southeastern Montana where there are fewer than 3 observation records reported in a typical year (Lowther et al. 2011, MTNHP 2019).

For a comprehensive review of the conservation status, habitat use, and ecology of this and other Montana bird species, please see Marks et al. 2016, Birds of Montana.
