The Purple Martin breeds across southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and throughout the entire Eastern United States, as well as along the western coast of the United States and the southern Rocky Mountains. The species is a rare summer breeder in Montana with fewer than 9 observation records in a typical year (Brown et al. 2013, MTNHP 2019).
