The Pacific Loon breeds across Alaska and the Arctic and into the northern portions of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec and winters along the Pacific coast from southern Alaska to Mexico. The species is an uncommon migrant through Montana in the fall where there are fewer than six observations reported in a typical year (Russel 2018, MTNHP 2019).
