The Yellow-billed Loon breeds in the central Canadian Arctic and northern Alaska and overwinters along the coasts of southern Alaska and northern British Columbia (Sibley 2014). This species is an accidental in Montana and has been observed in spring and winter (Montana Bird Distribution Committee 2012).
