General Description
Shrub 2–6 m. Stems purplish-brown, becoming gray; thorns 3–5 cm long [3-7(-11) (Phipps
in Flora of North America 2014)], curved. Leaf blades ovate, 2–5 cm long, serrate, mostly unlobed, sparsely hairy above, glabrous beneath. Inflorescence 10- to 15-flowered, villous. Flowers: hypanthium villous; sepals 3–4 mm long, glandular-dentate; petals 6–8 mm long; stamens 10; styles 2 to 4. Pome 7–10 mm wide, red, pubescent (
