Lesica #4582 24 June, 1988. Locally common in elm-green ash forest at the head of the North Fork Burns Creek ca. 7 miles SE of Richey. Ca. 850m. T22N R54E S36. With Oryzopsis micrantha and Carex sprengelii.

Keith H. Dueholm & Bonnie Heidel #12,216. Carter Co.: Long Pines, head of Maverick Gulch. SW/NW Sect. 5, T3S R61E. Jct. of 2 drainages just below steep slopes with ponderosa pine, fairly open. 2 July 1994. Elev. 3,800ft.
 
General Description
Stems erect, 50–120 cm, simple or few-branched, puberulent at the nodes. Leaf blades cordate-ovate, glabrous above, puberulent below, 4–9 cm long, acute, serrate. Inflorescence 3–8 cm long with purplish bracts. Flowers: calyx conical, puberulent, 4–7 mm long, teeth deltoid, purplish; corolla blue, 15–20 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Range Comments
Southern Ontario west to Saskatchewan and Alberta in Canada, south to Wisconsin, northern Iowa, South Dakota, Northwest Nebraska, and north-central Colorado in the United States (McGregor et al. [eds.] 1986). In Montana plants are found in the eastern-quarter of the state (McGregor et al. [eds.] 1986).

POLLINATORS
The following animal species have been reported as pollinators of this plant species or its genus where their geographic ranges overlap: Bombus appositus, Bombus centralis, Bombus flavifrons, Bombus nevadensis, Bombus ternarius, Bombus griseocollis, Bombus impatiens, Bombus insularis, and Bombus suckleyi (Thorp et al. 1983, Johnson 1986, Mayer et al. 2000, Colla and Dumesh 2010, Williams et al. 2014).
