General Description
Fibrous-rooted from a short rhizome or branched caudex. Stems erect, 10–30 cm. Herbage glabrous. Leaves thick, long-petiolate below; basal blades obovate to suborbicular, sometimes cordate, crenate, 1–4 cm long; cauline lanceolate to oblanceolate, pinnately lobed or toothed, the lower clasping. Inflorescence corymbiform with 1 to 12 heads. Heads radiate; involucres 5–8 mm high; phyllaries 13 or 21, glabrous, green with ciliate tips. Rays 8 or 13; ligules 3–8 mm long. Disk corollas 4–6 mm long. Achenes 2–3 mm long, glabrous (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
