Migration
Bozeman area migration occurs from May 8 to May 25 and August 10 to September 20, with peaks on May 18 and September 10 (Skaar 1969). Statewide peaks are on May 14 to 21 and September 7 to 14 (Davis 1961).

Habitat
In the Bozeman area, the species occurs in large flocks on lakes and less frequently on ponds and in flooded fields (Skaar 1969).
