General Description
Annuals. Stems ascending, 2–20 cm. Basal leaf blades reddish, ovate to deltoid, 5–20 mm long. Stem leaves sessile, ovate, perfoliate but not fully united into a disk. Inflorescence single-bracted with spreading pedicels to 5 mm long. Flowers: sepals 1–2 mm long; petals white to pink, 2–3 mm long. Capsule as long as sepals with ca. 3 seeds (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Habitat
Moist, sparsely vegetated soil of open forest, grasslands, often in shade or along streams; valleys (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Ecology
