General Description
Rhizomatous bunchgrass. Stems loosely bunched, 50–100 cm. Leaves: blades mostly 2–5 mm wide. Inflorescence a contracted panicle 6–15 cm long. Spikelets 3.5–5 mm long. Lemma with a slender straight awn barely surpassing lemma tip, callus hairs >1/2 the length of lemma (Lavin in Lesica 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
