General Description
Stems 10–60 cm. Leaf blades broadly ovate, 2–5 cm long, shallowly 5-lobed to twice crenate, glabrous to sparsely hairy above, glabrous to glandular and puberulent beneath. Flowers campanulate, regular; calyx 6–10 mm long, green to white; the lobes 2–4 mm long, erect; petals absent or inconspicuous; stamens shorter than the sepals. Capsules 5–8 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Our plants are varieties cylindrica and glabella (Torr. & A. Gray) Wheelock.

Stony soil of grasslands, rock outcrops, dry to moist forest, talus slopes; valleys to lower subalpine (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).)
