General Description
Perennial, sometimes mat-forming from a simple to branched caudex. Stems 10–30 cm, slender, terminal. Basal leaves linear to narrowly oblanceolate, 7–20 mm long with entire or few-toothed margins. Stem leaves lanceolate, weakly auriculate. Vestiture of sparse, simple to branched hairs on basal leaves, glabrous above. Petals pink to purple, 4–6 mm long. Fruits spreading to erect, 2–5 cm × 1–1.5 mm; seeds wing-margined, in 1 row per locule (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

BC, MT south to CA and UT (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX). Lescia's distributional data, however, are based on the taxonomic concept of two varieties. Users should note that Flora North America (Vol. 7) treats the varieties as separate species (B. casadensis and B. macounii).
