Diagnostic Characteristics
Variety speciosa can be distinguised from the others by the following characters: involucre 8-14 mm long, whitish-tomentose at least at the base; corollas 9-13 mm long, usually puberulent (rarely arachnose) (Urbatsch et al., 2003, Fl. North America, Vol. 20; Lesica 2012).

Range Comments
BC to MB south to ID, AZ, NM and TX (Kartesz 2009).

Ecology
POLLINATORS
The following animal species have been reported as pollinators of this species or genera where their geographic ranges overlap: Bombus bifarius, Bombus centralis, Bombus huntii, and Bombus melanopygus (Williams et al. 2014).
