General Description
Perennial bunchgrass. Stems 20–100 cm. Leaves: blades 1–4 mm wide; ligules 2–4 mm long. Inflorescence a loosely contracted panicle, 5–15 cm long, the branches slender and capillary. Spikelets 4–7 mm long. Lemmas hairy mostly along midrib and to some degree along the marginal veins, keeled(Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Range Comments
Spotty distribution from Rocky Mtns. to south coastal Alaska to Kamchatka.
