General Description
Warm season, rhizomatous perennial often bunched or in patches. Stems 60–150 cm. Leaves: blades 3–8 mm wide, wiry; sheaths with overlapping margins; ligule hairy. Inflorescence a narrow to open panicle 15–40 cm long. Spikelets 4–6 mm long, with 1 floret; glumes enclosing the floret. Lemmas with 1 distinct vein, awnless with a long hairy callus. Disarticulation above glumes; unit of dispersal the floret (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
