		General Description
		Cultivated annual bunchgrass. Stems 50–100 cm. Leaves: blades 5–10 mm wide. Inflorescence an open panicle 10–25 cm long. Spikelets 17–22 mm long, usually with 2 to 3 florets. Lemmas hairless, awnless or with a straight whitish awn 0.1–3 cm long, with an inconspicuous hairless callus (Lavin in
