General Description
Perennial bunchgrass. Stems 20–70 cm. Leaves: blades 1–2 mm wide, scabrous, ligules 1–5 mm long. Inflorescence an open diffuse panicle 1–3 dm long. Spikelets 2–2.2 mm long. Lemmas about 1.5–2 mm long, awnless or with an awn up to 4 mm long; palea minute or absent (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
