State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
Juncus vaseyi is reported for Montana, but specimens have not been verified or located. The Flora of North America reports that this species is present in Montana, but despite efforts the specimens have not been found. It has been collected in Teton and Meagher Counties, but these specimens need to be verified. Two specimens collected in Cascade County were later verified to be Juncus hallii and Juncus drummondii. Until specimens can be obtained and verified this species remains unrankable.

Range Comments
NT to NL south to ID, CO, IA and NY. According to Lesica (2012) there is a report in Flora of North America for northwest MT, and a report for Cascade County by Dorn (1984) was based on a misidentified specimen of J. hallii (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
