General Description
Caespitose annual. Stems ascending to erect, 1–5 cm. Leaves basal, 0.5–2 mm wide, mostly flat. Inflorescence of hemispheric to obovoid spikes of sessile or subsessile spikelets. Spikelets flattened, 3–8 mm long. Scales long-acuminate, light brown, ca. 1.5 mm long, 7- to 9-veined with long spreading to reflexed tips. Flowers: stamen 1; style 3-branched. Achene narrowly obovate, 3-sided, brown, 0.5–1 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
