General Description
Plants cespitose or rhizomatous. Stems 20-80 cm. Leaf blades 2.5-5 mm wide. Inlforescence 2-4 cm long; spikelets 5-15 mm long, round to oblong, jagged on sides, bases of lower ones generally more or less pistillate, generally rounded or short-tapered; lowest spikeelt bract leaf-like or not, generally shorter than the inflorescence; pistillate floral bract generally not covering fruit top, generally white, awn 1.2 mm or less. Perigynium ascending to spreading, 2.8-4.5 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, generally less than 3x longer than wide, green, body lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, lower wall filled with pity tissue, beak long-tapered, 1-2.7 mm long, teet erect to invcurved, generually less than 03 mm, tip to fruit top generally 1.2-1.8 mm; fruit 1.5-1.9 mm long, 1-1.3 mm wide (from Mastrogiuseppe, 1993, Tne Jepson Manual).

Range Comments
BC and AB south through MT and ID to CA and NV (Kartesz in prep. 2012).
