            Reported for southwest Montana (Dorn 1984). Kartesz (in prep., 2012) does not include MT in the distrubtion. More information is needed to determine the status of the species in the state. 
			
	 
	
	 
		General Description
		Plants 10-60 cm tall, often branched; herbage spreading-hairy, many hairs gland-tipped. Leaves 1-5 cm long, linear, those of branches mostly entire. Inflorescences terminal, capitate, mostly 2-5 flowered, subtended by trifid bracts which resemble the foliage leaves. Calyx tending to be purplish, scarious between the nerves, teh lower segment several-nerved, nearl or quite as long as teh 1-1.5 purplish corolla; upper calyx segment somwhat shorter, 2-nerved, bifid, the teeth 2-5 mm long. Stamens 2 (Hitchcock, 1959, Vasc. Pl. Pacific Northwest).
		
	
    		Range Comments
			Mountains of central Washington south through eastern Oregon and central Idaho to northeastern California and northeastern Nevada (Chuang & Heckard, 1986). It has a S1 rank in Montana.

		Habitat
		Open slopes and dry woods from lowlands to moderate elevations in the mountains, often among sagebrush (Hitchcock 1959).
